Gameznflix offers the chance to rent both video games and DVD movie through the same subscription package.
Range
GameznFlix has over 40,000 DVDs and more than 3,000 video games available to rent through their subscription package. The game systems covered are PS1, PS2, PSP, XBox, Xbox 360 and Gamecube which leaves some of the smaller console owners such as Nintendo DS, Gameboy Advance, Dreamcast etc. owners left looking elsewhere.
Features
Gameznflix offers a 14 day free trial of their combined DVD and video game rental service for new subscribers. This gives a taste of what subscription members can expect although some functions are limited during the trial such as the size of your rental queue and titles available for rental are also limited.
The website itself has recently been redesigned and is still a little on the shaky side but will no doubt improve with time. Games come with reviews, customer comments and ratings, some with screenshots but it doesn't feel very polished in the way many of their competitors do. There are none of the bells and whistles offered by specialist video game rental sites like GameFly for games where you'll find professional reviews, game controls, walkthroughs, cheat codes, video clips and more.
Search
The search features for movies is very comprehensive, provided a detailed advance search and huge list of genres and categories to browse through. You are not limited to the general genres like 'Westerns', 'Horror' etc. here but instead can search for much more specific genres like 'conspiracy theories', 'nuclear destruction'! You can also browse by rating, language, subtitle language, screen format and more for a very comprehensive search experience.
For games, the search features are also good allowing you to search by rating, category, publisher and genre which holds the usual list of gaming genres. You can use the search box to search by title or by keyword which searches the game descriptions to and allows for wider browsing. Oddly enough, we couldn't find a complete list of games to browse through title by title but had to go through the search facility or category by category.
Shipping
Gameznflix offers free shipping in both directions from it's distribution centers in Southern California, Denver, Kentucky and Massachusetts. They predict shipping times to be anywhere from 3 to 5 days which is slow compared to that predicted by other similar companies but may be a little closer to the truth.
Rental Plans
Gameznflix has four different rental plans allowing you to choose a selection of games and DVDs combined.
1 Out At A Time : $8.99 per month
2 Out At A Time : $12.99 per month
3 Out At A Time : $16.99 per month
6 Out At A Time : $249.00 per year (annual subscription only)
Military subscribers are given a discount on these plans. See the Gameznflix site for further details and requirements of this.
Overall
The idea of a renting both DVDs and console games from the same location at this price is very appealing. However, if you are only interested in one or the other then you are probably better off looking at a company which specializes in just that area for a wider selection and more detailed user experience.
What We Like About GameZnFlix
|
At $16.99 per month for a 3 disc plan GameznFlix has the potential to represent superb value to anyone who wants to rent both movies and games online. The free 14 day trial is also very welcome.
What We Dislike About GameZnFlix
|
Despite the redesign the website still feels very clunky and lacking in the kind of in depth coverage provided by the major dedicated game or DVD rental companies. DS, GBA, GB and Dreamcast owners need not bother looking as their consoles are not supported. The projected 3 - 5 day shipping time is also slower than that projected by most of their competitors. The limitations on the free trial means it doesn't really give a great feel of the site as many areas are so restricted during this trial period.
